I’ve descended 2,500 feet beneath the sea in a (yellow) submersible, trekked through land transformed into a moonscape by wildfire, journeyed to the Mars lab at the once-secretive Los Alamos National Laboratory, and explored a California town that has fortified itself against today’s megafires.
